Sports Photos [08 Nov 2009|08:20pm] photographers [kabeach] [ music | Steely Dan - Black Cow ] Well, fall sports are winding down - time to start getting ready for winter sports - I know by March I will be really looking forward to getting back outside, but for know I start preparing for lots and lots of basketball... This volleyball match was an experiment - normally I shoot VB with an 85/1.8 and 135/2 - so I wanted to try it with my 80-200/2.8 to see if the loss of the stop was worth the ability to zoom... I shot several matches with the 80-200/2.8 to make sure I spent enough time with it... overall, I prefer the two lens system and will probably continue to shoot VB with primes instead of a zoom. All shots done with D300 + 80-200/2.8 - Lighting was a bit of a challenge - it was mixed between sunlight and florescent. Comments and Critiques are welcome! 1) ( More Under Cut ) Cheers! [08 Nov 2009|05:43pm] photographers [blorky] Next month, some friends are coming to town to compete in an indoor sporting event. It will be held in a convention center, rather than a school gym, so I'm expecting the lighting to be better than terrible. I don't expect to get closer than 50-60 feet to the action. I have a Canon Rebel body, and a camera store nearby where I can rent some glass. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lens to rent, or should I just snag something like a 70-200 and cross my fingers? Thanks in advance. choices [08 Nov 2009|11:16pm] silly_narziss It feels like I'm coming closer and closer to giving up smoking. It's not only totally annoying to be kicked to the cold curbs these days, I'm also feeling physical reasons to quit. Natasja has said she will find it easier to quit too if I give up smoking. Today at Pip's daughter's birthday party I found myself on the roof terrace most of the time smoking with some of the other guests, until we all decided to go into my house, creating a weird sort of foggy sub-party. Tomorrow afternoon my job interview is finally to happen. I'm trying to sort my thoughts and feelings about it all. After his initial hesitance my father called me back later to say I should do it, since they're not running a church but a school, where my skepticism about their semi-religious beliefs shouldn't matter much. It seems to come down to choosing between what's good and what's good. But what's best?? reasons to stay in cheesetown - kids know me well after 12 years there, often through brothers and sisters; - reputation works for me, can't remember the last time I punished a student; - very relaxed informal working athmosphere, total freedom; - distance: seperating work and private life when in different cities; - colleagues I consider friends (although some are leaving); - my own classroom; - all ages from 13 to 18yo including final exams responsibility. reasons to work in sillytown - no need for car, biking distance from home (financial gain); - working for trusted management; - financially healthy school with new building planned; - strong art curriculum and paedagogics; - colleagues in same town, social life impulse; - strong mathematics curriculum; - new challenges I'll go there with an open mind tomorrow. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 17.46, or 0.17%, to 10,023.42, while the S&P 500 added 2.67, or 0.25%, to 1,069.30. The Nasdaq rose 7.12, or 0.34%, to 2,112.44. Karen Finerman said on CNBC's "Fast Money TV" show it was impressive for the market to come back after the release of the high unemployment number. After a week full of great news from Cisco (CSCO), a stock which Cramer owns for his charitable trust, Action Alerts PLUS, and Ford (F), along with an extension of the new home buyers' tax credit and Warren Buffet's purchase of Burlington Northern (BNI), Cramer said the bears have little left to complain about, and that sounds the "all clear" signal for next week's trading.( Read more... ) moan with me.

Tree. [08 Nov 2009|01:59pm] saucydwellings [floatyfish] So, I've been working on this freehand painting of a tree for a few weeks now and I've finally finished it (mostly). I still need to do the bits that extend up onto the ceiling, but I'm in the stage where I step back for a few days and decide where extra foliage (if any) is needed.
